I’ve been cheerful and bubbly since of late, which is an extremely good thing. I’ve finally gotten to that stage where I’ve let go of insanely stupid things that have happened in the past and I feel SO much better now.
Yes, dear bloggers, I can see many of you go “ha! Told you so!”. ;)
Well, I knew it myself but it took a long time to feel it.
So I’ve been having a good time lately. Meeting with friends , trying out different bars and cocktails. Rize bar is quite nice, and so are the cocktails! I love their Blue Bull Frog and Long Island Iced Tea, they’re quite good.
We’ve had reviews in (client vs agency) office and I’ve been set up way high with a lot of praise and recognition and stand out to be the best in the team. This also came with a fabulous treat courtesy of one boss (food & booze wise that is, and I’m yet to find what the other one will be like). :)
So yes, one of my bosses said that I appear to be the bubbliest and one of the most cheerful people in office and that it’s a lovely change. I think I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time... and it feels so damn good!
I think I might also get another chance to go to India on work – same as last time, which would be Bangalore and Chennai but during new year days.. So I’ll be missing out on the celebration here at home. The funny thing is, I haven’t got tickets or visa sorted yet and I have already got quite a shopping list from others! But this time the timing is quite tight so I highly doubt there will be time for anything like shopping.
Apart from that I’m enjoying my Zumba classes, whenever I manage to go for it that is. Been enjoying the matches too... :)
Life’s good right now. Let’s see what else will happen with time to come! :)
So, how has everyone else been?

Random Memories (2)
- My mum used to work when I was small, so I had quite a few nannies who took care of me. In the evenings when mum had time, she would take me to the park or beach for walks... and my dad would then take lots of pictures.
- My dad had quite an obsession with his camera. I think every moment of my life was captured on camera and on video. Video cassettes have got so much of fungi that it’s disgusting to even touch, so those are thrown away. Pictures always bring a smile on my face every time I go through them. Makes me realise, I was cute once.:)
- My dad was an awesome cook. I loved the way he made minced meat.
- The first time I heard about sex was when I was just 6 yrs old. A friend came to spend the night at our place coz his mum and sister were in SL on holiday and his dad was working the night shift. This boy was a good friend and about 2-3 yrs older to me. We were playing UNO in the middle of the as we couldn’t sleep and he began to tell me about these movies he’s watched and told me all about sex. He made me swear that I wouldn’t ever tell anyone. But a week later, I wanted to show my parents that I’m a smart kid, and told all about it to my mum. Who in turn told my dad, then dad told his dad, and we were never friends after that. He never even looked at me, lost many of his night TV privileges and had a lot of advice from his family.
- I have shop-lifted chocolates a few times from supermarkets, until I got caught to my parents who then gave me a life-threatening warning and I never did it again. I must’ve been about 7 yrs in age and I even taught my bro how to do it!
- During a fight with my brother once, when I was about 13 yrs in age, he took air freshener and sprayed it into my eyes. I screamed in pain and pretended that I was going blind as I wanted him to feel really scared. :) I was fine after a while.

Cupid, that wasn’t funny!
Last Friday, I had planned to meet up with 2 really good friends from school – Lost soul and another friend, lets call him R.
I picked R and we went to Inn on the Green during happy hour and since the heavy rains did not have any mercy, we asked LS to bring an umbrella to the side exit/entrance of Galle Face and to walk us in. LS was early and glad to be of assistance.
A minute later, we see a familiar figure approaching us. Somehow, the first thing that caught my eye after that was the fact that there were streaks of light coming through the umbrella and before I could say it, R started bugging LS about bringing an umbrella with holes in it.
This umbrella was a major part of our conversation. After we all had a few drinks, we tried to figure out how the holes became a part of the umbrella. The theory that nearly knocked us off our chairs was that it was used during the war. Somebody used it to protect himself by opening it out and strategically placing it in front of his body and that’s why there were bullet holes around it but not at the center.
Moving on, we were having quite a few drinks and this old-ish white gentleman near the bar smiled at me twice and I smiled back.
About an hour later, he walked to our table, or rather barrel, and started talking to us about cricket. He asked the guys about the best batsman, fielder and bowler in the world. Then he told us a bit about himself, how he was English and Irish mixed, brought up in Aussie and was now here on work for 3 yrs, out of which only 2 months have passed.
His wife divorced him 10 yrs ago as he traveled a lot on work and in his absence she had fallen in love with someone else. His only daughter was engaged to a guy who was Aussie and Indian mixed.
Then he went on to ask our names after introducing himself and when I told him my name, he kissed my hand.
He then came and stood right next to me and asked me if I was married to R. I said “No”.
Then he asked me if I was engaged.. I said “No”.
Then he asked me if I had a boyfriend… I said “No”.
He suddenly screamed saying “yes” with ultimate happiness and kissed my hand again!
By this time, R & LS were giving me smiles and looks and all that was written all over my face was “get him outta here!!!!!”.
Then he went on to say he was 54 yrs old… He has worked in China & Thailand.. He’s had many girlfriends and was into younger women after his divorce. He still hasn’t found someone mature and understanding enough… and asked me how I would feel if he became my boyfriend!
By this time, I knew deep down that R & LS were having the time of their lives. Yet, they didn’t do anything about it coz he seemed like a genuinely nice guy and not one of them perverts who scare the shit out of you.
So we went on to talk about society, parents, how my mum would simply die and let society blame her death on me if I was with an older white guy.. we also went on to things that society would say and do.. etc..
Then he asked if he could use his charm on my mum and make her like him in the future.. I said “not a chance” and politely tried to tell him that I’m not into men as old as him.
In our state of drunkenness, R asked him to mention 3 things that David (old guy) found attractive about me. By this time, I wanted to strangle R with his own tie.
He looked at R in a very serious way and said :
- First thing I saw was her face. She has a pretty and expressive face.
- She’s sexy.
- I'm yet to find the third reason.
By this time R was clapping away and hooting as if Sri Lanka just won the match against Australia.
Then David went on to tell me he’s a good cook. He said, what he wants in a woman is for her to be understanding, someone who wouldn’t work for a living and talk to him when he comes home after work, asking him how his day was… giving him a shoulder massage.. and ofcourse, great sex.
Since he couldn’t order drinks only for me, my friends and I got so many rounds of free drinks from him. Then I thought to myself, you know how a lot of our women are good with the term ‘gold digging’. If he got caught to one of them, they would just rip him off.. and use him for the money and leave him later.
After all this, he asked what I was doing on Sunday.. ( this is where my heart beat way faster than it has in a long time coz I wanted to get away from him). My friends looked at me with serious expressions on their faces.
I told him I didn’t have plans as yet. You see, the problem in being drunk is that it’s very difficult to lie! And that’s just pathetic.
He then invited all 3 of us for brunch at Cinnamon Grande with champagne. He showed me his number on his phone and asked me to take it down. I saved it on my phone and told him we’d call and confirm the next day.
He said that he loved it when women wore saree and asked me if I could wear one for brunch! I told him that I only wore saree for weddings and not on other days so there’s not a chance of that.
Then I was having a personal chat with LS and his life while R and David were going on about cricket. In the midst of this R told David that I may not be into older men and that he better not do anything I don’t like as they’re protective of me and wouldn’t let anything happen to me. This touched me so much. Made me feel like I’m indeed lucky and there’s more in my life that I need to be thankful for.
Then, after all this he ordered a shot of something sweet for all of us… in my drunken state I couldn’t quite hear what it was called. I think it sounded like “Zambica”. You dip your thumb in it, then light your thumb on fire, drink the shot and then put your thumb in your mouth to let it out. It was cool! David first taught us how to do it and then we all did it together.
We finally said our goodbyes.
By this time he would’ve kissed my hand about 20 times. He asked me whether he would get a goodnight kiss! I shoke my head saying “No” and walked the hell out with R & LS.
All in all it was a fun night I must say. In case you’re wondering, I’m not going to hook up with David!
Though I felt bad and thought I’d text him the next day and ask for a raincheck as we had other plans that came on. My friends told me that he was a genuinely nice guy and that I didn’t have to worry. It was better to respectfully tell him I’m not into him if he tried once again.. and that it’s better than avoiding ( which is what I thought too ). But the text never got delivered. Which makes me think I must’ve been really high that I seem to have taken the number down wrong.
So that’s my story. It was a fun and unforgettable night. First time a man old enough to be my dad started hitting on me. I understand that this old man young woman relationship works but I’m certainly not one of them.
He said love comes from the heart and nothing else matters. From the things he said, he sounded like a true romantic who just walked out of the streets of Gossip Girl with a name that belonged to the upper eastside.
May he find love in another pub. May I never bump into him again!
LS – have I missed anything? Pls do add, if yes.
